Workbench Customisations
Posted 6 July 2018
This is the introduction for a free series. Want to watch the whole thing? It is free to do so, you just need to log into the site, and you can enjoy this series and many other videos we think you will love.
There are a number of additional features that Paul likes to add to his workbench to make it really shine: Saw hangers keep his saws ready for action, the sharpening stone shelves mean that they are always at hand, the tool well add-on and the drawer provide convenient positioning for organising specific tools. These are just a few of the additions that take the bench to the next level. Have a go and see which ones work for you.
Hi!
I know it’s not really a workbench customization but I don’t know a better place to ask: are you planning on releasing a video on building those shelves on the background? I’m moving to my new workshop and I’ll need some storage so after finishing my workbench I though it would be a nice first project on that bench to build those shelves. Just drawings/plans would be sufficient really.
Thanks!
They will be covered at some point in either blog or video format. No definite schedule for it yet I’m afraid. Sorry
Thanks a lot Phillip!
Are you planning a tutorial on cutting Drawers into the apron and/or end drawers or storage for sharpeners as was in the old castle workbench ?
…It’s On its Way (the YT Video) and You Shouldn’t Live and Work Without One!
When?
Any news on when the workbench drawer video will be out?
Thanks
Darren.
Hello All, the workbench drawer videos are on their way next month.
my work bench was my first project about 2 1/2 years ago. It is not exactly square and the bottom of the well board does not align with the bottom of the work surface. Since then my skills have improved considerably. Any suggestions to fix it or should I start over with a new work bench?
Do you have any pictures you could share?
Might be worth asking this in the forums where you can post pictures, or send us an email through the contact tab and one of us will get back to you.
Best
Hi, Any idea on when the next episode (3) of the drawer installation is due?
The episodes of the workbench drawer will be coming out weekly on Fridays.
Hi WWMC team,
I’ve been following along and making these customisations as they come out. The whole series is fantastic.
Is the apron drawer the final modification? Once they’re all finished, I’ll move my bench out of the carport and into the shed.
Thanks
Tim
Hi Tim,
Thank you for your comment.
The workbench drawer is the last major modification, however there will be a few more tweaks to be made to the workbench.
Kind regards,
Izzy
Hi there. I noticed a nice storage shelf on the underside of the workbench just above the mortise and tenon joints on the legs (not the sharpening stone shelves). I seem to have missed this. Is there a video for adding this to the workbench?
Thanks for all the great work.
Hi David,
Thank you for your comment.
Unfortunately there is no video on this. To make the shelf Paul used plywood and cut out the corners and rested it directly on top of the cross rails.
Kind regards,
Izzy
Thanks, that’s very helpful.
Is there a video for how paul adds the shelf at the bottom thats right above the botttom rails?
Apologies I just saw an earlier comment about the plywood
The shelf installation is shown in the blog “INSTALLING MY UNDER-BENCH SHELF” dated 18 June 2018 and in “BEFORE THE WORKBENCH DRAWER” dated 19 June 2018.
I made it a bit differently. No screw drive needed to remove it.
