I’d love to be able to buy some tool steel and make one, but I can’t even find shellac or wet and dry paper here (yet), let alone tool steel and a machine shop!
I have been looking on the ebay UK site, which also returns search results from the US. The listed postage from UK to BG can be shocking – often more than the item itself (and sometimes much more). Thanks for the Record 405 tip. That has increased my options, and there are several listed at the moment with postage about £3.50 (which I can handle).
BTW, there are NO old woodworking tools in BG! I have been scouring the local ‘swap meet’ (‘car boot sale’ in UK parlance) for chisels and it took me three weeks to find one (1). Woodworking is viewed here as some sort of arcane craft best left to specialists. It seems that the DIY craze never happened in Bulgaria. Very strange since everyone is broke here.
