Get into the habit of stopping short of the work so you can take a turn or two to engage the nut. You have to line up the threads on the nut with the threads on the screw.
Do it so you don’t put pressure he jaws til the nut is fully engaged.trying to clamp before the speed nut is fully engaged wears the threads out faster. Record’’s asymmetric threads are supposed to engage a little quicker, but you still have to turn before you apply pressure to the jaws.
