I always struggle with sawing straight. I am not usually more than 1/32 off over 6 inches, but I could never get that “dead square” that people talk about. I saw this video today and it clicked on what I was doing wrong. Maybe it will help other people too 🙂
Heritage has a good one here on fundamentals and ways to practice.

I think his most important tip is what he says in the beginning: you must have a well-tuned saw in order to saw straight. After I judiciously removed the set on my handsaws, thereby lessening it and making it equal on both sides, the saws run true even if I close my eyes. Well, as long as I start straight. It’s remarkable how little a change in set it takes to have a very large affect on the straightness of the cut.
This is great stuff!
I have had problems with sawing straight and now I know what to do to correct my technique. What clicked with me is being a shooter I know what a natural stance is.
