Hello woodworkers ,
This is my first time online and I have one basic query I would appreciate an answer to .
The wood in my local B&Q is described as above.
Do I need to leave it in my living room ( I am a bachelor and planning to construct my workbench here )to adjust or would it be ok to just start the lamination.
Could it warp or twist to such an extent that |I couldn’t proceed?
|Thanks for any ideas guys
Nick, it’s always a good idea to acclimate wood to some degree, especially for important projects, that being said, the benefit of the bench top being laminated from 2×4 is that the top is pretty resistant to warping/twisting once it’s all glued up. I’d let the boards acclimate for a few days to a week.
Cheers Dave. I appreciate your answer. I was just worried it might do s.th before I glued it all
Be prepared for wood to move even if it’s been acclimated for a month. Some boards are going to have tension in them. When you cut, plane etc they can still move and at times remarkably, it can be really frustrating at times 🙂 so in some situations it’s simply easiest to toss it in the fire and use a different board. softwoods seem to suffer from this more so than hardwoods for some reason, perhaps due to how fast they can grow.
Will do guys, thanks again. (perhaps I should invest in a small woodburner too)
