I have an Emmerich frame saw and would like to change out the bar for a string and toggle. I was hoping to find a tutorial on the specifics but couldn’t find anything and thought maybe someone here had seen one.
I’m sure it’s pretty straightforward stuff, but it would make me feel more comfortable to read or watch a tutorial before modifying a tool.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Jay,
Not much of a tutorial required.
Remove the bar and file a 1/2 moon recess at or just below the holes in both uprights to retain the twine.
Tye a double overhand knot at one end of the twine and put it in one of the filed recesses, wind the other end around both uprights 4 or 5 times and weave the tag end through the cords several times at the upright opposite the overhand loop to secure it.
Place a toggle long enough to reach the crossbar into the middle of the cord bundle and revolve it to tension the blade.
I use this twine:

Pretty simple really.
Best,
