Careful you don’t get greedy and try taking too big of a bite, or this can happen when levering out the waste.
First time using the chisel, too. Annoying that I don’t get a lot of time in the shop these days but can’t be too surprised given the price. At least I’ve got an extra set or two. Don’t have an 8mm size in my regular Narex set.
George.
I wonder what they’d say if you took that back to Aldi? Don’t mentioned how it happened, but suggest that there may have been a flaw in the steel (there may well have been!).
George as long as you have your receipt i do not think it would be a problem getting a replacement , I had some clamps from Aldi that broke if I remember right I had to down load a form off the internet which I completed and took back with the broken clamps for a cash refund
I’ll have a root around and see if I can find the receipt. I won’t be too upset if I can’t find it but I was pretty surprised it actually snapped. I think there was a flaw in it because I’ve used others for mortising before and not had a problem. The one I was chopping here is only 1.5″ deep in pine.
I’ve got another couple of sets so set up another 8mm ready to carry on tomorrow. At £8 for a set of 4 it’s cheap to have backups!
George.
I’d resharpen it George, I think old worn bevel edge chisels were used for mortising as the sides are thicker back in the day!
