The other day I felt tired and unsuccessful in the shop. My picture frames are not going as well as hoped. Do I quit. No! Can picture frames be made with flawless miteres and splines? Yes! Maybe not today…maybe not tomorrow. But like my dovetails from 2 years ago, they will improve. I will grow. I keep at it in the shop after work. 2 hours or so during the week and more on weekends. So, I return to another project today and things go well. I feel better. My confidence regains its strength and feel renewed…I feel sharp. And so, I woodwork.
I look at every error as a learning experience. My skills won’t improve unless I make mistakes.
I will also put a project aside for a while if I’m getting frustrated. I’ll work on something that builds my confidence and then come back.
