This box was made from reclaimed Southern Yellow Pine flooring from an old textile mill. The planks were 3”x8” and splined on both edges. The mill was built in the 1880’s and there were cotton threads stuck in the edges. Just like we try to imagine the craftsman who used the old tools we buy and restore, it’s interesting to think about the people who passed over this floor for over 100 years.
That’s a great looking box, Nick. Very clean-looking dovetails. I also love making boxes from reclaimed wood. I made a few from old Meranti window framing from my brother’s house. This one is with sliding lid, for a board game.
