I’ve inadvertently disabled the speakers on my computer and now can’t hear anything when I try to watch the woodworking videos. I’ve gone into various settings menus to do with audio but can’t find anything to turn the speakers back on, can anyone help please?
I’m on Windows 8.1.
We’re not using Windows 8, but since nobody else has answered yet, I’ll tell you what it was when that happened to us. When we went to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound, then to Manage Audio Devices (under Sound), there were two choices of Playback Devices. Somehow, the wrong device had gotten chosen as the default playback device, probably by a program we had run.
When we clicked on the correct device, we were able to choose to set that one as the default, and the sound started working again on our computer.
If this doesn’t work, I’ll ask our daughter who has Windows 8 and is a computer guru.

Hello Jim,
Thanks for your reply ( or should I say ‘sound’ advice 🙂 )
You’ve hit the nail on the head! I’ve been trying to get some headphones to work on the computer so I can watch Paul’s videos without disturbing my family, I must have changed the settings without realising and I couldn’t get the speakers or headphones to work.
The speakers now work again.
Many thanks.
Kind regards
Jim
