Be gentle? That’s a very nice box Doug. I like the dovetails on the legs. Very well executed design.
1 February 2013 at 9:29 pm #7315Nice job Dougie, Marie will treasure that first one for a long time.
That’s a great looking box, Dougie. I especially like the dovetailed corner feet and the change-up in dovetail size between the main box and the feet.
As I’ve expressed elsewhere, I’m with Rodney in eagerly awaiting the bigger projects. I really feel like I’m learning more/faster when I really have to stretch to do something that seems a little beyond me. So I’m particularly excited for the table, rocker, and toolchest projects that have been discussed.
This small box project has seemed to progress especially slowly compared to the clock and tote projects. Maybe partially because I already have the Working Wood DVDs. I do appreciate the value for the dollar though. I learn something every time I see Paul make a presentation. Box #5 video was the best of that series so far, but I’m for sure looking forward to the subtle complexities of making the lid.
Anonymous2 February 2013 at 5:20 am #7338I chuckle as I read these comments, not at anyone of you, but at the almost apologetic, cautious tone taken. If our high school teachers had heard “Can we pick up the pace?” from us, they would have dropped stone dead. Perhaps you did, but I certainly never uttered those words. 😉
I for one am hooked, impatient and ready for 12 episodes a week like I’m sure most of us are. It fascinates me that most of us are SO intensely interested in learning about something. So it says a lot about Paul’s methods and style of teaching I think. In the back of my mind I’m hoping the Masterclasses will never end, that Paul will never run out of simple solutions to seemingly complex problems, and that I can just keep learning. I think he’s awakened something (a passion or purpose perhaps?) in all of us that we need in our lives, and now crave.
3 February 2013 at 1:58 am #7349@ Jeff, I can’t tell you how many times I have watched the Woodworking 1 & 2 series. Not to mention the videos on youtube. I have learned so much and am very greatful. I can’t wait to see our future projects. Anyone know what our next project is.
Anonymous3 February 2013 at 3:19 am #7354I hear you Rodney. As we speak I’m watching one of his DVD’s again (for probably the fifth time). I don’t know what the next project is, but wish I did. My guess is something with mortise & tenons, since he’s covered housing dados and dovetails. Those are the three joints he focuses on in the DVD’s. Perhaps either the rocking chair, or maybe the end table. The workbench might be another option, but he’s already done it on YouTube. I think I’m going to guess the end table. What do you think?
3 February 2013 at 4:21 am #7356@ jeff. I can’t wait to get to the rocking chair. I have to be honest though, when we first started the boxes I was thinking about something harder. Then I realized, wait a minute I could use several of the boxes around the shop. My goal is to make Christmas presents out of some of the projects such as the clock. I think a weell made project would mean more than a store bought present.
3 February 2013 at 4:34 am #7358@ Jeff, Oh one more thing Jeff, the last two years of the woodwrites shop have been excelent. With projects such as the Roubo Bookstand, Wreched ratchet reading rack and the Elizabethan Joint stool. All worth watching, learning and making.
Anonymous3 February 2013 at 4:36 am #7359I was think along the same lines Rodney. We’ve got 11 months until Christmas. I was looking at the two boxes I made and it occurred to me that they are the same construction as drawers. And if the drawer width is wider than the 6″ maxim Paul uses, just flip it upside down and use the grooved lid as the bottom so it will float and not break with expansion. That opens up some possibilities. I think Paul is being sneaky here. 😉

Is that online, DVD, or book? Thanks.
