I am a 69y old pensionner, who like to work wood with handtools-but only beginner.
Should like to know other Belgian people,to encourage ,support ,exchange know-how and stimulate each other. Perhaps we can -in group-spread the skills to other starters, under the guidance of Paul.Who like to have contact ?Jozef Broux
Belgium16 October 2017 at 11:27 pm #335462Dag Zeppos, nice to meet you. I am happy to find a collegue in woodworking. Are you living in Sweden or temporarely? Sweden has a lot of wood and a reputation about steel for cutting planechissels and axes …..right…? Eskilstuna ….?
I only have made a wooden recepient for herbs, mosquitoholder for windows, 2 houten schragen, and my first little wooden box with dovetails-to try. Also oldfashioned handsaws with a chord. A few old planes restitution.stanley nr 4+4.5+5+7 and handsaws:the beautiful handle is touching me. Very funny to do.
My wife dyed in 2001 and 5kids are out of home -10th grandchild is coming begin december. The youngest son is coming home tursday from a stage of cameraman for filming in Estland.
i like to meet Belgian woodworkers in the method of P.Sellers. Who knows we join us ?Yes,no borders !
Jozef
5 November 2017 at 6:38 pm #356358Dag Zeppos, G R E A T Gives me joy to admire your workbench.
This model is very attractive, and more pratical.Very accurate and “pristine” work of you Wish to make identical model,to place against a wall ?
What kind of pine U have used ? Scandinavian pine is very good wood, isn’t it.
I am stil busy with restauration of Stanley 45: 7 planes in one plane. Hope to make usefull .
Thx a lot for your foto.Next time we’l see,
Jef

You must be logged in to view attached files.I have just used standard construction pine. I used 45×220 and ripped the beams for lamination on the table saw, all the rest is only done with hand tools.
Paul just started his new free video series on a workbench. My top is a bit wider. My toolwell is constructed differently as well. The toolwell is 45 thick but with housing dados that slide over the legs and a bevel so it looks less thick and aligns with the table top. The toolwell is connected to the apron and screwed into the legs, similar to the tabletop, a rabbet in the table top allows it to contract or expand. I also installed a veritas inset vice so I installed my legs a few cm further from the edge than Paul does ( the inset vice requires a hole in the top and otherwise the legs are in the way) . All the rest is similar. Finish is osmo oil.
I screwed a beam against the wall with spacers at the ends at the same height as the bench (99cm), so there a small gap towards the beam in which I can slide my saws at the back. I think I prefer that over having them hanging at the front apron. Let me know if you have any other questions?
Bedankt Zeppos,Jef broux

You must be logged in to view attached files.
