Good evening everybody,
I recently won a bid on my local online second hand tool site for my first brace. It’s a two jaw brace from Stanley with a ratchet and its in a great condition for the €10,- it cost me.
In the brace and bit video Paul uses a adapter for hex bits, since I haven’t been able to find any square auger bits I was thinking of getting one of those hex adapters to use with modern hex auger bits for drill drivers.
So far I managed to find a cheap set of Hitatchi bits at the local Toolstation and a hex adapter at fine-tools.de.
Has anybody used the square to hex adapter with a auger bit successfully or does it only work with screwdriver bits?
Square to hex adapters work fine with a brace.
What you need to be concerned with is whether the adapter hex end is compatible with your drill bits. They came in several sizes, 1/4” and 5/16” being common.
And be aware that hex shank adapters, will work in 2 jaw chucks if the chuck jaws are in good shape.
Thank you Larry, I guess I better buy the augers first before buying the adapter then.
Or you could see if there is a three jaw chuck adapter available (not sure how well they work with a 2 jaw, I use mine with a 4 jaw). That may give you a bit more flexibility.
