Avoiding tearout in cutting plywood

When the cut is accross the grain on the upper layer, a knife wall will do the trick. If you are using a rip-cut saw, it should have even finer teeth than a cross-cut saw, and any saw should be quite sharp.
Especially on thin plywood, I always try to cut very close to the support, because this causes less vibration and the wood will be flexed less. And I keep a low angle of presentation (i.e. much closer to parallel to the surface than to 90°).
