@Paul-Sellers has mentioned the use of a bandsaw before and now again in his latest blog post. I’m starting to get a little worried. A bandsaw is beyond my space and budget. I don’t want to hold anyone back nor do I want to be left behind. I hope that Paul may elaborate on this a little more so we know what to expect in the near future.
I do realize that if someone wants to make this their profession then a few power tools will be needed for the grunt/donkey work. So Paul will need to address this for those that will be going that route. I just hope that those of us in small home workshops will be able to continue with the project series with hand tools only.I read that Greg, and I’m with you on that one. I also don’t have the budget now or anytime in the future for bandsaws.
I think some of the thing that has to be taken into account, Is that a lot of us on here, have a small work space and a small tool budget, and limited money to buy stock for any bigger projects.
9 December 2013 at 10:55 pm #23431There you go, this is another reason I so enjoy belonging to this “Family”. Paul has shown several different methods and ways to accomplish a task. This for me is very much appreciated, I enjoy learning and seeing different ways on doing things.
For what it is worth I do have a nice 22′ X 22″ Garage / Shop equiped with a Bandsaw and several other power tools. These were bought way before I retired and I certainly could not afford to purchase said machines Today. But personally as long as I am physically able ( I am a couple years older than Paul ) I want to use Hand Tools and learn how to use them the way they are suppose to be.

9 December 2013 at 11:13 pm #23432Steve that sounds like a great space to work in. Don’t get me wrong, if I had the space and budget for a bandsaw I would have one and use it all the time. If I was starting a business it would be the first thing I purchased as well.
10 December 2013 at 12:03 am #23434the very reason i signed up to this site are the reasons you pointed out Greg space time and budget .i had always been messing around with cheap routers chopsaws and the like nailing and screwing this together. these woodworking master classes have opened a whole new definition of working wood without power and i love it. even this past year i barely have accumulated a minimalist hand tool set. i recently went back and build the clock as a christmas present and the difference it took in time and skill was very evident to my first attempt i believe the introduction of power tools will hasten the skill level to a different realm of working wood
I know not everyone had the want or need to buy a band saw. But, I’m excited about this new phase of wood working. I bought a used band saw earlier this year, because I was searching on craigslist and found one cheap. It needed some work to get up and running, but its a joy to use. I use it now to mess around and cut shapes. It will be nice to know how to get the most out of this machine in the upcoming year.
Here is a picture of what I got for $100.. Probably could have gotten it cheaper if I could haggle better.

I had a similar bandsaw to start off with only last year and have just upgraded to a 16″ Record BS400 here in the UK.
I am now keen to try and get a Carter stabilizer for this machine but despite e-mails to the Carter offices, I have yet to get a reply.
Are there any members in the UK or abroad that have the stabilizer?
Just joined today, so apologies if I am butting in.
Located in Birmingham UK
