Just completed this prototype from pine coated with four coats of shellac. I am to build a bespoke piece out of quarter-sawn oak that will be five units tall rather than just the two. My better half is trilled with this one…..she gets to keep it.

Looks really good, Tex. Was that design from one of the magazines? I remember Pop Wood or maybe Wood Mag had a barrister bookcase a few years ago.

Gotta say, the pine doesn’t look like pine. Do you have any additional coloring in the shellac?

    Congrats.

Thanks Matt. Yes indeed it was a Woodsmith design from some years back. There was no color other than garnet shellac. Four coats seemed to do the trick. Thanks for looking and for the commeny

That looks really good Dan. I look forward to seeing some pictures of the oak piece.

Very nice! I can’t believe that’s just garnet shellac on plain pine.

Thanks Derek…I know, I was taken by complete surprise when the final coat of shellac turned out like this. It is basically only a two pound cut as well.
