Well My gate is in place.
I did not have a long enough piece of oak for posts so used a bit of Meranti. I also could only replace one post as I could not remove one of the old posts as the little wall is built right up to post and would be very hard to remove. The post is quite sound considering it has been weathered for quit some years.
The concrete post are well out of plumb so had to pack bottom hinge out.
I used 3 x 3″ brass butt hinges. They seemed good enough for weight of gate.
Post some picture tomorrow.20 April 2014 at 11:23 am #56284Here is a couple of pictures in final position. Another long winded project finished. I just don’t get the time very frustrating.
Now I have got to finish my coffee table .It has been about nine months since I started project. I have got to buy some MDF I have my veneers got my scotch/hide glue, veneer hammer, I will be venturing into the unknown 😮

20 April 2014 at 2:31 pm #56290That looks fantastic Mark! I know how frustrating it is not having the time available that you would want. Congratulations on completing this build. It was time well spent.
21 April 2014 at 10:00 am #56314That gate is a massive improvement. I was a little disappointed with not being able to remove old post and a couple of the shaped uprights on gate had small gaps. The main joinery was pretty good all round.
There are two things that I wish for to make my woodworking more complete. A bigger play/ work area and more time. The area I am working in puts big limitations on what I can make. The size of the gate was a challenge.
I can wish for these things but doubt they come true. So I will just have to be happy with what I have got.
I thank every one for there kind words and encouragement. Which dose help reach new milestones.21 April 2014 at 5:57 pm #56328Mark

Thank you for sharing the journey with us. I can feel your frustration with time and work space. I think we all can. Good luck on the coffee table.
