Welcome! / Forums / General Woodworking Discussions / Projects / Bench/ storage chest
Hi to You all!
The other month I was asked to built a custom fit kind of chest/bench for storage.
First I went thrill but then I got very very scary!
I got my dimensions and the exact color to stain from the “customer” (not a really one, she’s my wife’s college) and a big white and empty sheet of paper to create.
I manege to make some drawings and one was chosen. (Paul’s inspired of course)The picture is below.
But… a lot of thins happen. Things like didn’t get any of the plough plans I was bidding, didn’t found the wood I want, and a lot of my “rockiness” in the way (specially this)…
Last weekend I manage to made the first dry fit.
Looks great Antonio
What type of wood is it? look forward to seeing the completed unit
Antonio, nice chest forming…
One issue about the rail to sit against: I believe you may have a stability problem there. In your drawing there is only the back of the chest which holds the spindles in the top rail.
That rail has only relative small tenons to keep it from twisting when someone sits on the bench.
It might break off the stiles of the chest part.
Hopefully you can understand my ramblings
Diego
Hi Diego!
That’s a good observation about my first drawing.
On the 2nd I didn’t made (yet) the back… because these were my first in the last 20 years. LOL
I made a lot of mistakes in the 1st drawing.
Since then I made a few “mini prototypes” to check for angles and so on.
I’ll use (at this moment I think…) some form of triangle in 2 of 3 with spindles to support the rail.
You are doing good. Stop thinking rookie.
And go at it that will be a prize and well liked.
