Thanks. Actually I would have preferred blonde shellac, but it was twice as expensive, so I figured I’d get my feet wet with the cheaper one. Haven’t used shellac before.

Shellac prices have gone through the roof over the last couple of years due to three years of crop failures and other industries increasingly using shellac and pushing woodworking down the scale of importance.
I can buy a 1/4lb for what I used to buy 1lb for three years ago. At the moment I am just buying small quantities until the supply side issues are resolved and the price comes down.
I have also found that in the face of rising prices the quality has often deteriorated. The orange shellac from Lee Valley was utter garbage. Wood Essence in Canada is my current supplier and their prices have not gone up as much as others whilst their quality is still excellent.
