I have settled on my next project, a Cabinet on Stand in pine.
I am calling it my Magnum Opus as I think it will be my most challenging project to date by far. (3rd year and counting). The legs I purchased as I have not the space, budget or expertise for a lathe at this time. But I think this is OK as I understand that turning was farmed out in many cases.
The proportions are based on the Golden Ratio, leg height 29″ x 18″ x 11.125″ doubled . Stand and Cabinet.

20 August 2015 at 1:19 am #129528Looks great in the model. Proportions look very pleasing. That should be a nice build and you’ll be able to use all the skills you’ve learned. You’ll probably learn a lot, too.

I’m yet to successfully turn anything out of pine without throwing it in the bin.
Love your work.

16 September 2015 at 12:23 am #130528I really like it, I’ve been a panel raising plane for some time now I’m still yet to follow Matt’s tutorial on making a moulding plane I just too many projects on my plate to get around to it. ne of them being making a website just not enough hours in a day to get around to everything.
I’ve been also thinking about making some cabinets for my shop something nice that could be inspirational for myself.
Well done
Do you think about staining it.
I doweled through, not a true draw-bore as I glued and clamped the joint tight prior to drilling. The reason I hesitated to do draw-bored joint is that I am working in pine and was afraid the tenon would get torn under pressure. The dowels are 1/4 inch cherry.
With regards the center joint, yes it is a half-lap joint. The dowel is more an esthetic thing, although the dowels are very tight overall so it might be keeping the half lap joint tight as well. -
