Finally was able to get into the shop and get my first cane started. It sure has a long way to go but its a lot of fun. I’ve only got a spokeshave and a 4-in-hand rasp. I’m sure that it would be much quicker with full size rasps, but the 4-in-hand seams to work just fine. Hopefully I can get the twist started tomorrow.
The wood is out of the mark down bin from the local Woodcraft store. Its bubinga. Hard stuff with some brittle areas. I like the color and the price was right.
Thanks for looking.
Thanks Ken.
Word of advice to those that will be using a 4-in-hand rasp. Wear a glove or wrap a rag around the end in your hand. It will rub a raw area in your palm before you even know it.
That is surprising Ken. Here in the states I would say its the most common type of rasp. They are not the best tools for sure, but they are handy.
That looks good. I am sure that is going to really pop when apply the finish.
That is a nice looking cane Greg, I like the shape you have there.
Very nice, Greg. Love bubinga. That is going to look stunning with a finish on it.
