I recently dropped and broke my #80 cabinet scraper and after I got another one on Ebay, I noticed that the previous owner had a beveled edge, the same as a bench plane. My question is whether or not the best edge is beveled like a plane or like a card scraper edge.
I have been using a card scraper blade in my #80 and I like the way it works and wondered if there is or should be a preference.
THe blade in a No 80 should always be beveled @45 degrees and then the edge turned on that. beveling the cutting edge allows you to turn the burr quicker and at the correct angle. I presume the card scraper you are using is considerably thinner than the correct blade.

Pretty much what has already been said you wanna have a 45° Bevel, Leonard Lee recommends a ~15° angle to burnish with.
You can use the same method on cardscrapers though you get less edges with that and i cant say if the hook lasts longer that way or not.
Matt: the card scraper is in deed much thinner than the regular blade and I do have the #80 blade beveled at 45 degrees but I have never put a secondary bevel on the plane blade I might try that. I don’t know exactly why but I seem to have better and easier positive results with the card scraper than I do with the #80. It seems to me that I can take a much finer and more controlled cut.
