Hi all,
I’ve been a member of this site for about a year now, but have never shared any of my pieces. Here’s the second box I ever made.
At first I didn’t like the ‘flames’ in the wood. I actually thought something was wrong with it. Now it has grown on me.
Regards,
Wesley
Very nice effort weslee, isn’t it liberating what can be done with simple tools and quality instruction?
Indeed! Before I found this site I slapped together a table made from pre-dimensioned wood, plywood and screws. After that I started looking into YouTube channels using thousands of euros worth of power equipment.
Doing this with my hands is so much more satisfying.. Slower too, but satisfying. 🙂

Nice box, Weslee. I’m guessing you know now through Paul’s teaching that those flames are the rays and flecks seen in oak (and maybe some other woods) when it is quartersawn. On some projects they can be a little overwhelming, but they look nice on your box.
