Chisel Box – Thanks for looking
I recently finished a chisel box to keep my chisels safe, together and to hand.
I don’t think it will win any prizes. The strategy I went for was a cross between “It’s only a storage box to keep in the workshop” and “Let’s try to make it at least a bit nice” and failed at both. I think it will still come in handy though.
I put my cheapo indestructi-chisels in the bottom and the nicer general purpose ones more accessible in a top lift-out tray. The box is designed to fit in the well of my bench, which had an implication for placing of the roundovers.
Sometimes mistakes propagate and produce really interesting effects… The box is made from scrap stock I had lying around. The top and bottom are made from a mistake made in a former life where I biscuit jointed some boards, planed them too thin to get subsequent warp out and then laminated them face-to-face with another such “failboard” to get the thickness I needed. When I recently dimensioned and worked on these frankenboards I exposed the beech biscuits in various places. I actually quite like the strange effect this has. It almost looks like it was on purpose!
