Tagged: Colquhuon and Cadman, Sheffield
Hi there, I’m a frequent visitor to flea markets in my home city of Cape Town South Africa and I found this little tenon saw the other day. I managed to decipher and match the worn stamp to a sawmaker on backsaw.net, named Colquhuon and Cadman, it’s the oldest tool I own now I’m sure of it (apparently they closed in 1920 in Sheffield). I’ve sharpened it to wondrous working order again (thanks to Mr Sellers saw sharpening lesson). Being a bit of an urban archaeology nut, I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about this maker or if anyone owns a C&C saw too. Tenon saws are a rare sight at flea markets here, the brass backs are normally stripped and the rest of the saw is virtually unusable afterwards, so I’m glad this one’s made out of steel, very glad for it to be part of my toolrack.
