Surfaced four sides? I know that’s correct but everyone got quiet when the teacher walked in. 😉

HaHa not really buddy the hole site is deadly quiet 🙂
Here in the US (Maryland) I can travel about an hour to Hearne Hardwoods and get white oak FAS for $350 a BF. I can also get it for $150 a BF for common stock (small projects can normally be built with common stock). Here is a link explaining the different grades: http://www.ahec.org/hardwoods/pdfs/IllustratedGradingGuide.pdf .  When I drew a cut list for this project I came up with 7, 8 foot long by 8 inch wide by 1 inch thick boards boards to do. each board is 5.33 BF. So 7 * 5.33 = 37.33 BF. 37.33 * 3.50 = $130.66. I am using laminated 1 inch boards to build up the legs in this calculation. As I mentioned in another thread I have chosen to use Cherry I have on hand to build this project but my cost would have been US $130.66. I also had about 50% waste in this calculation as I am expecting the usual defects in the wood and in my work 🙂 Also it would be about US $60.00 if I used common stock at $1.50 a BF. Actually I would probably purchase even more for waste if I went that route as the defects are higher.
Well I struck out at my local lumber store, so I just ordered my table legs from ebay.  Here the link to his ebay store.  I paid about $15 a leg for 3x3x31. At least I think I did! Either that or I bought just one leg for $60.  😉

Good luck with that Robin, very interesting site. Did you order the White Oak? Let us know how the lumber turns out when you get it.
