Hi,
I took apart some unwanted tatty old furniture that was supposed to be oak. It was a gate leg table, probably from the late 1950s or early 1960s. While it had wedged tenons on some joints, it also had some mortices cut by machine.
While the top of the table was mainly thin veneer over plywood, the legs seem to be some sort of hardwood.
The challenge is that after I stripped off the stain and polish I found what looks like different types of wood. The attached photos show three pieces of wood. While they all appear to have similarities in the grain in places, they are all three different colours.
Looking at the photos, does anyone have an idea what wood it might be?
Thanks
Darren.
I had a piece of cherry laying around and it has held up well for me. They say Osage Orange is the one of the best wood to use.
