It has been a tough year for me, with aging parents and work schedule, but I have finally gotten back to building doors for my storage shed. I decided to do it the hard way, just for the fun of it and experience. I has been quite a project, intimidating at times, but fun and rewarding.
I still have to do the final trimming/cleanup, and then hang them on the shed, but I am very happy with the results at this point. I built them from Western Red Cedar so they could withstand the weather.

23 January 2015 at 11:42 pm #123831nice job Steve are these your first set of doors ever built, amazing work, i’ve seen joiners on site that couldn’t do them.
24 January 2015 at 7:32 pm #123847Thanks guys, I’m hoping to get them hung over the weekend. Eddy, this was my first attempt at making doors, I got the plans from the book Doormaking and Window-Making from Lost Art Press. It took a bit to interpret the instructions, but once I got the hang of it, it all made sense.

Frankj25 January 2015 at 4:35 pm #123861Great looking doors Steve Look almost too good for a shed, how do you plan to finnish them?
What size timer have you used? I am considering replacing my metal up and over garage door with a pair of timber doors, I was thinking I would put a window in each door to allow natural light in if I have the doors closed.
How do you plan on getting a weather proof join between the two doors?25 January 2015 at 10:23 pm #123875Those look great Steve. I”ve been thinking about replaceing an interior door in my house. You’ve inspired me to make one myself.
30 January 2015 at 2:51 am #124085I didn’t even take pictures of my progress, I should have, and will try to do better on other projects. Basically it is just a bigger version of the panels that Paul makes for the tool chest. Originally I had the idea of draw boring the joints, but since the Wester Red Cedar is fairly soft, I didn’t think it would hold up well over time in the weather. I used wedges on the tennons to tighten them up, hopefully that will give me added life to the doors.
30 January 2015 at 2:54 am #124086Thanks again guys, I was a bit down in my back and did not get them hung over the weekend. I am hoping to get it completed soon and will post pictures of the finished shed with the doors when I do.
