I have been playing around with dovetail angels today. I think I’m going to go with 1:5  just personal preference.  A great many opinions out there, here are some that grabbed my attention.

I’ve been playing around with the same idea Ken.  Take a look at this video.  The piece is over 100 years old and no dovetail failure.

Thanks Greg, Interesting video. I’m pleased we don’t make them like that anymore, still strong enough to do the job though.

The man who made the original did everything against what is currently held to be holly writ….yet his work still remains…the lesson….enjoy your craft and execute it to the best of your ability….maybe confound the experts in 100 years.

One more thought about dovetail angles….make sure your chisel will clear your chosen angle…don’t box yourself into a corner that you can’t clean out.  Sorry about the pun.

Good point, my smallest dovetail chisel is  1/16″ (1.5mm) so I should be ok.

I wood knot want to get boxed in. 😉
