I had left some Douglas fir boards from our patio, and I needed some chisel boxes. Turned out I miscalculated and the chisels won’t fit, but there’s always some use for a good box.
I had to resaw the board (nice exercise) and planed it to about 3/8 and made the box. The smell was wonderful, but the resin made planing a bit of a hassle. I wanted to try some Van Dyck (Dyke) crystals and stained the wood dark. Afterwards I used garnet shellac and some wax polish for the finish.
It’s not really pretty, but well made and a good piece for testing some techniques. My father said it looks old and used, which doesn’t have to be a bad verdict.

I like it. It has rustic charm.
Your joinery looks to be nice and tight too. Well done.
Love your box David, it has a lot of character. Especially the one side. Keep up the good work.
Cheers
Nothing like scraps for projects! Nice to not have to go out and buy anything.
They look nice, motivating me to start on mine!
