I love contrast of Walnut and Maple.
I have use it a couple of times my self.
Great looking box 😉
Nice box Dan, I would like to make something in Walnut and Maple up to now with the exception of a couple of projects in Oak have only used Pine
Well Dan, I think the master got it right. He makes it look so easy, what with 50 years experience and the magic of television. I ended up with a box that would not close (eventually it split at the end), and another with corners that reversed themselves while I wasn’t looking, so I ended up with something like a swastika. Your effort looks miles better than my botches. I did finally produce something that was serviceable, albeit a little gappy. I think that when faced with the master’s level of excellence, there is collective tendency to obsess neurotically over our failure to achieve perfection. I think that this is part of the attraction to machines. Just cram wood into your dovetail jig, and presto–perfection. But….The journey is important too. My 12 year old granddaughter and I got more enjoyment out of my swastika attempt; I wouldn’t trade that moment for anything.
@jlmountverizon-net definitely don’t give up! I have gone through the same problems you are describing and got so frustrated that I almost gave up on several occasions. Watching Paul work through these joints are a God send! I’m sure you will be askew to make perfect dovetails in no time!
