is it just me or does everyone think the tool prices on ebay have shot up in the last month ,i don’t know if its because people are buy tools as christmas gifts for themselves or others but it seems the price of old/vintage tools has gone through the roof ,i wonder how many of us on this site are bidding against other members or is it the dealers using this and other forums to find out what we’re looking for and getting in there before us .
I noticed that Eddy, the prices shot up over the pasted six weeks. I was bidding on a Groves tenon saw it went for over fifty quid which is a bit rich sight unseen. I think it’s down to Paul saying how good they are on the videos LOL. But there are still bargains to be had I bought a Spear and Jackson as a buy now for £8 and with a little bit of work its fantastic.

Makes tool guys like jimbodetools look more reasonable. I did pick up some nice record 151 spokeshaves with shipping included for 35 bucks from Jim.
It’s not just you and not just the last month.
It’s even worse when you need items to be shipped internationally. prices can become ridiculously high.
It took me nearly a year to find a cabinet scraper and a router plane at reasonable prices.
Unfortunately, as long as buyers are willing to pay too much, it will only get worse.Another thing I have encountered on eBay is the refusal of some sellers in the UK to ship to the USA. I’ve found several tools that I would have bid on, but when I inquired, the seller absolutely refused to ship to the USA. It’s kind of hard to understand since I have been able to purchase several tools from the UK from dealers that DO offer international shipping and have never had problems of any kind; I just have to be prepared to pay a bit more and wait a few extra days.
15 December 2014 at 11:49 am #122179hi Gary i can’t see why they refuse as ebay now offer an international postal service all we in the UK have to do is send it to the UK address and ebay send itr on from there
