I was so happy with this that I wanted to share it with like minded folk. I am very much the beginner at working with wood, so far I have made a shooting board and a bad attempt at a tote.
I had a piece of 2 x 1 oak which I have ripped in half to make two pieces of 2 x 1/2ish, these I have edge jointed which I plan to make a sandpaper caddy with. My previous attempts at edge jointing have not been great but with this one something just seemed to click in my head and I got that Eureeka moment. I feel now like I have taken my first small successful step in woodworking and it feels good 🙂
I have just noticed a couple of steps in my surface planing, I can’t be lifting the heel up and the end of each stroke so i’ll need to re plane the surface.

Thanks for your kind comments, I certainly feel like planing is becoming a bit more natural now after my awkward first attempts.
