    Started the aprons!
I’ve cut very, very tight housing dadoes and made the legs fit with few, gentle strokes of the smoothing plane.

    Emilio,

looking snug and good, well done. You’re using a bit less massive stock than some others here. It would be interesting to know the dimensions and how you feel about it and eventually, what your experience with it will be.

David, you’re right. My workbench is a bit… more “light”. 🙂

    Legs are 70mm X 70mm [X 900mm].

    Top and bottom cross rails are ~35mm X ~100mm [X ~830mm (top rails) || ~860mm (bottom rails)]. Tenons are 12mm thick (~35mm/3)

    Aprons are 30mm X 400mm [X 1500mm]. Housing dadoes are 12mm deep.

    And each of the two laminated tops is made with 4 @ 70mm X 70mm [X 1500mm].

Well, I hope my workbench will be stable enough… I will let you know for sure! 🙂

P.S. I think I’ll have to install a little vise – the thickness of the bench top is only 70mm (http://www.fine-tools.com/schraub.htm – Woodworking Vise Type 52); or to make my own vise (I’d use something like http://www.axminster.co.uk/york-plain-screw-vice-guide). Don’t know yet…

Emilio, the bench is going to be plenty stable. Once you glue and screw those aprons to the leg frames and get your tops attached it will be rock solid. The issue you may face is movement during sawing, planing etc. This is easily rectified by adding weight of some form to the bench. If you need it, some cabinetry under the bench for tool storage etc should do the trick.

As far as a vice goes, don’t go small, after a year you’re going to wish you had a bigger vice. You can always place packing under the bench top to make a bigger vice fit. I wish I would have got the bigger vice when I bought mine.

Very precise, clean work, Emilio. Congratulations on marching forward with the housing dados and aprons! You will have your bench in no time and you will feel great about it!

Now I need to jump into the fun of building again to have my bench soon too!

Thank you, Dave. As always you give us precious advice!
I could place a little board under the bench top to increase the thickness of the top and to make a bigger vise fit. Right?

Thank you, Carlos, for encouraging me!
I’m sure your bench will be great!

Emilio, correct. You can custom fit it so the metal jaws are 1/4 inch or so below the bench top. This will give you plenty of room for future re-flattening and cleaning of the top.

Regarding aprons guys. I’ve laminated e.thing *(and also have all the top done)
However one of the aprons/the well (they’re all the same dimensions -3 lengths of 2.4m x2x4’s) has twist.
I’ve been trying to get my head around where exactly I neeed to plane as not all have twisted but have, I think, satisfactorily flattened one side.
Then I turned it over! Needless to say this is the last one!
Hmm… should I begin to level this out too or leave it for later?

I’ve watched all the vids up to here and may have missed s.th.

    cheers
