I want the tool chest to be my next project. I have already decided on the dimensions and that the main body of the chest will be pine (lightweight and cheap) I am going to make the rails for top and bottom panels from oak as well as the drawer fronts. What I’d like to do is use some sort of “special” wood for the two panels on the lid. Any suggestions?? I’m not that bothered about making them raised panels and I would be in so much trouble if they were very expensive.
You could make them from pine and then veneer them which would be quite a cheap (relatively) way to have some very fancy woods.
