I just finished a bookcase. This has been a long time in the works and I finally just dug in and finished it. It’s 87″ high, 35″ wide and 12″ deep.
Sides are Oak Ply that I had leftover from a window seat build: shelves are 3/4″ oak. The backing is from big box store, already finished.
I started this bookcase some years ago. I had cut the sides down and routed the dadoes and rabbets. And then it sat in my basement until recently.
The last part of the build, making the shelves, squaring them up, planing them was done with hand tools.
I know all the mistakes I made and learned quite a lot from this project.I’ve cleared enough space in my basement to try and start my workbench… Hopefully it won’t take me as long as the bookcase. 🙂

If you don’t point out mistakes, it’s likely that no one else will notice them.
Great job!!

Just to plane this length is a work out which I would dredge. Good work and see if you can clear all that stuff out and turn it into a dedicated work shop. It took me two months to take posession of my garage from wife and I haven’t looked back since.

@salko: Unfortunately, the sides are Oak Plywood, so I didn’t plane that straight. I too like the semi gloss look. Basement area is about 16’X 28′ and I can use about half the basement for woodworking. I infringe unto other areas sometimes. Got rid of 10 boxes of books from the basement by finishing this project. I’ll continue to “reorganize” as I claim my workspace.

Space is always an issue even with two car garage I am squeezing between the tables and machinery. I honestly don’t know why I’m keeping that darn table saw I could reclaim all that space if it was gone..
