So if anyone is in the UK I’d be happy to post some mahogany to you. The Pieces are generally a good size to make dovetail boxes out of. The dimensions vary but the wood is defect free and straight grained.
There was a lot of furniture that had been left in an abandoned house and it was falling apart, it was going to go in the bin but i salvaged the drawer backs and sides, all of which are solid mahogany. I probably have about 80 pieces in all.
Let me know if there are any takers.
The wood is like shown in the photo (Though it may not be these exact pieces.

12 May 2015 at 9:40 pm #127114I’d be very grateful to take advantage of your generous offer. My wood budget is slim at the moment and I can think of a few things they would be just right for.
I’ve been trying to work out how postage would work; looking at your pictures I’ve guessed your pieces average 1/2″ thick by 14″ by 5″, is that about right? If so, my maths says 20 pieces should weigh a little under the 15kg that myHermes will carry for £10. For reference, again if my numbers are close, that equates to about £25 per cubic foot, or a bit over half what you’d pay for sawn mahogany (or rather, red tropical wood) at my local timber merchant.
If that sounds about right to you, and if you’re sure you want to part with the wood, I’ll have as many pieces as weigh a little under 15kg. If I’m way off I’d appreciate your corrections.
Thanks,
Matt

Don’t worry about the postage costs it’s my pleasure.
13 May 2015 at 7:15 pm #127138I’m sure that nobody would find out and I know that it isn’t against the law but my post office told me they don’t post exotic items abroad including hardwoods (unless it’s furniture)… so I decided not to do it because I’d have to get a permit.
This is all because I own a joinery shop so I’m bound by some rather odd rules and regulstions
