Does anyone have recommendations for a proper hinge for this project? I do prefer a quality solid brass hinge to plated. Thanks!
Hej,
Brusso offers very high quality solid brass hinges. In UK they can be had from
https://ClassicHandtools.com/Index.html.
Apart from butt hinges, there are also Brusso stop hinges on offer, which probably is a good alternative for the lids of the laptop desk.
The butt hinges from Niche Locks were good enough I think; perhaps not manufactured to the same finish, but then again they’re priced at 1/3 of the Brusso ones.

Thanks for the reply. I should have clarified that I am in the United States as to avoid excess shipping. I was looking at them in the hardware store the other day and it made me think that I hadn’t really considered the correct size or type of hinge that would mate between the edge of a bin and the interior face of a lid.
Try Lee Valley tools leevalley.com, the have a very good selection of hardware. They are a Candian company, but ship to the US from upstate NY
And I see Lee Valley carries Brusso hinges. Thanks very much! Should have thought of them sooner!
