Holes?

I just picked up a Stanley 50, and I noticed that there are holes in the ends of the arms. What are these for? My Record 44 doesn’t have these TIA J
You can stick a nail through there to tighten or loosen the arms.
🙂 ahhh something so simple – I was thinking there was a much more complicated explanation but it makes sense.
