Thanks guys and yes I am very pleased.
Have made a few cuts and feels like a totally different saw, nicer to use. 🙂
Well I have marked up handle for my Disston Rip saw on a bit of Walnut.
I have changed pattern a bit think it will work better.
I’ll have a bash at that tomorrow.Attachments:

I did cheat little on this I was finding it difficult to pear edges especially the hole. So I use a little sanding drum on my Dremel. The main shape was still cut by coping saw and panel saw and Brace and bit. The saw plate cut done by my Disston Tenon saw. Finished with Danish oil and furniture wax.Attachments:

5 October 2013 at 10:37 pm #19662Two more saws to do a Spear & Jackson 10″ brass back not sure of tpi but it is quite fine so 13/16 I think. Already marked out for pistol grip on Walnut.
The last one I will do Is my Disston 24″ 8 tpi crosscut. I going to use a bit of Mahogany.
Then I have to spend a bit of time using my saw horse. Files to the ready and my magnifiers. lolAttachments:

The battens are tight in the recesses by the time you put your saw in between battens holds very nicely. I made it a couple of years ago and it accepts saws from 26″ to 8″ baked saws. Also hooks on side bench then clamp in bench vice. It is nice and sturdy then and nice height to stand and file.7 October 2013 at 7:43 pm #19716Thanks Jon I needed to do something about handles on some of my saws. Yes it dose make me want to use more.
That’s the forth handle I have made now all are lot more comfortable to use.
On the Sandvik 14″ I think I got the hang a little on the negative side but still more comfortable than before. I will get use to it.
I have one more saw handle todo then I will be happy.
Now I have made a few handles I would suggest that if you are not happy with handles on your saws have ago. You need a decent bit of wood Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Beech, Mahogany close grained woods are what you need. Ash and Oak to open grained for my liking.11 October 2013 at 10:35 am #19832Great work, Mark!
I hadn’t seen this until today but if you feel the urge to make another saw handle, you could enter it to the saw handle making competition at Workshop Heaven. Not sure if you’re aware of it, but you can read some more about it here:

11 October 2013 at 5:07 pm #19839Thanks George,
Yep have seen the competition I don’t think they would be up to those standards of a competition.
I know one thing the handles I have made a heck of a lot more comfortable to what saws originally had. 🙂 -
