    How informatively delightful!

I don’t know if he is the original guy, or just making fun of the same story I read a few years ago. But it was reported that there is a person who offers pencil sharpening service and apparently earns a living by providing that service.

    That is very funny!

After taking 3 days to make a walking stick I have gone off the idea of setting up a business to make them.I think I may start a pencil sharpening business instead

Wow! I don’t know about the rest of you but I certainly picked up a few pointers there. I can’t believe I’d been sharpening pencils completely the wrong way all these years…
It just goes to show that in any craft, you are always learning.

Wow,…it’s time to start that artisanal ball point pen re-filling business I was thinking about.

Some of you might remember ‘Pet Rocks’ that were sold some years ago. David Rees has found his pet rocks product. As circus promoter P. T. Barnum said many years ago, ‘There’s a sucker born every minute’.

    Thanks for the laugh Ken,

It does work! Just like the video. All with tools for less than a thousand dollars, as the gentleman stated.

It is great to finally have that pencil sharp.

    LOL.

Seriously though, I think this is a slap in the face to those “saw doctors”. There are (more like “used to be”) many great saw doctors who restore, refine, finely sharpen and adjust saws, but they also kind of mystify this whole saw sharpening business, which should be, just like pencil sharpening, easily done by any craftsperson given a few hours of practice. I’m not saying we should avoid saw doctors (well it’s not like they exist anymore anyway…), but if you think paying for pencil sharpening is ridiculous, then paying for saw sharpening isn’t much better.

Oh and, I’ve a feeling the plague of sharpening debates is finally infecting more than just woodworkers. Sooner or later painters alike are gonna have bloodsheds over pencil sharpening too :). And of course, some company is gonna come up with a fancy, probably powered pencil sharpener. Oh wait they already have that…
    Gotta love the 21st century.
