I’ve been watching Paul’s videos for a while, and have finally got enough basic tools to try my hand at some of the simpler projects (I’m pretty much a complete beginner at this).
One thing I’m struggling with is how/where to get wood for projects? I live in London in quite a small place, so don’t have any storage room for much wood, and definitely no room for any power tools to saw bigger wood to size with.
Local hardware stores seem to focus on terrible quality pine (very knotty, warped etc.).
I’ve looked at some places that deliver cut wood to order (e.g. http://www.woodshopdirect.co.uk/), but they seem to charge a £20 delivery fee, plus a £20 milling fee, so for e.g. a simple box, I’d have to pay a minimum of £40 on top of whatever the wood also costs!
Any advice on this? Is there a more cost effective way to get started?
