I have a friend who bought a hutch and she’s trying to figure out where it may have come from and how old it may be. In looking at some of the joints she found this. I have never seen anything like it and haven’t been able to find it. The closest I have found is a Knapp Dovetail joint but it’s still a long way from this.
Any suggestions would be helpful!

Why is the back of my dovetails rounded?
byu/cabblesnop inBeginnerWoodWorkingThank you, I think you sent me down the right path and I might have just found my answer. It appears these can be made with modern dovetail jigs and a router. It makes sense, I didn’t figure it was done by hand.
As for age, I have no idea when if ever that joint was popular but it may have been simular to the way the Knapp machine was used, mainly on drawers to keep up with the machine manufactured bodies. This piece has other types of joints other than the drawers.
Thanks again!!
I have seen many different kinds of decorative dovetails, though not one quite like this. If you like the way it looks, I imagine it would be possible, and maybe easy with a bit of practice, to cut by hand. You would probably use a gouge, rather than a chisel, to shape the curved part of the dovetail. Am I wrong?
