I’m working on a end table in a similar style to Paul’s sofa table. I have already made a sofa table style table like this, and I attached the top of the table with the turnbuttons.
I have never made drawers before so my end table will be my first. I was going to glue kickers to the side aprons, but that would interfere with turnbuttons placement. Is there an alternative method for attaching the top or an alternative placement for the kickers?
Also, should the drawer and drawer rails be set in with the same reveal as the side and back aprons or should they be flush with the legs for the face of the drawer?
I’ve seen people use brass turn buttons. They rebate the top of the apron so the brass plate is flush. The hole on the underside where the top is attached is elongated to allow the table top to move laterally. The only disadvantage is you can see the thickness of the plate if you look under the top.
I’ve read in older books that a drawer should set just inside the apron. Otherwise flush is fine. Setting it just inside gave the drawer a bit of reveal and kept it from looking like one solid apron. Otherwise flush is ok. Never proud.
I’m in the process of making a coffee table with the same turn button issue. I had to use a small ratchet to get into the right space between the runner and top.
Good luck
