Long leaf pine?

Apparently the wood used to build my now decaying farm buildings was long leaf pine. There is a bunch of it laying around under thick layers of dust and dirt. So I plan to clean some up for woodworking projects. Its a hard and heavy pine species with tight growth rings and a lot of contrast. Wondering if anyone has pros or cons for working with this species?
