I made a chair for using at my desk. It is pretty much like a dining chair.
The chair is made of painted pine. I also made a cushioned seat; my first go at upholstery.
The side rails have angled tenons going into straight mortises on the legs. The joinery on the legs was cut first and then I curved the legs a bit to make them nicer looking. The rails on the back are curved and I cut the tenons on them before cutting in the curves.
This project had a lot to work out, from the overall height of the chair and top rail to the angles of each part and then how to join the lot together.
I’ll give it a couple of weeks to see if I want to change anything more. The seat padding is 2″ tall and I think it looks a bit overstuffed. The back could lean a bit more. It is a good height though for me to type on my computer at the desk.
I’ll add some more photos if you want to see anything in particular. I’m going through them now.

I’d really like to get to some chairs. I think Paul will be doing dining chairs in an upcoming Masterclasses project and that should give me some things to look out for.
That’s a nice clean looking chair. It somehow reminds me of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh style. I think its the proportions of the timber you have used, particularly for the chair back. You will all go and google CRM chair pictures now and say “its nothing like a CRM chair”. But to me there is something about Judes chair that reminds me of that style.
