Hello WWMM Forum readers,
I recently made an octagon for a friend of mine and I would like to make more of them, but the plastic miter box I have gives a rather rough edge to my 22.5 deg. angle cuts. I was wondering if any of you have made a miter box with a 22.5 deg. angle along with the standard 45 and 90 degs? I was thinking of building it with 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood to avoid any weakening of the edges. Any thoughts?

I have made miter boxes at several different odd angles for different tasks-such as running trim araound raised panels on a stairway. I have never used plywood. I think it may tend to grab the saw. If you are going to be making lots of cuts, hardwood may be the way to go.
Thanks Nick! That’s why I posted on here! Knowledgable members. I have some maple that I could use. Did you find that that for the sides a certain thickness was better than another? I have 13/16 maple right now and black walnut of the same thickness.
