I decided to start making tables…any kind. I wanted to make a coffee table but my measurements were off so I downsized to the occasional table. I accidentally glued up the legs before tapering them as well as shaping the aprons. Got a little excited. It’s still a good table though. For me, this is how I learn. A lot of times I have to make three of everything, except my workbench, before I really know how to make a project I’m pleased with. I chalk it up as extra training and who knows, maybe down the road someone will ask if they want to buy it. There’s also some chip out under the table-top along one of the shoulders of the bread-board tenons. I never made one of these joints before so I can’t be too hard on myself but I do have to admit that the chip out bothers me more than not tapering the legs or shaping the aprons. I know to work with sensitivity as well as care, but for some reason I rushed a little. At the end of day, these types of experiences in woodworking is what I enjoy. I like it because the next time I make bread-board tenons or some type of table, I will say to myself “Now last time I chipped out the shoulder. Lets see if I can do better.” Or maybe I’ll think, “Remember to shape the aprons and taper the legs. I made that mistake before.” Or possibly, “I wanted to make a conference table but downsized to a foot stool.”
