Mold on a Rounded Table

My wife would like a kitchen table. Of course, she would like a rounded one. I would like to cut some kind of molding around the edge of the table. I would really like to do it with hand tools, though I do have a router.
I also thought about a bread or just using a gouge or rounded file to scallop around the edge. Any other ideas?
