Just got the top to do I’m going to use 3/4 ply topped with hardboard.

It does look a smart piece of work @ swesson though I’m not sure that hanging it from the ceiling is the best idea. Joke aside wouldn’t a piece of veneered ply look better and then you haven’t got a possible problem with the hardboard corrugating after a while?
Looks really solid. I’ll bet that’s going to be a great table for many years to come.

In the end I topped it with 3/4 ply with a 1/4 MDF laminate coated with 4 coats of gloss polyurethane trimmed with 1 1/2 x 1/2 pine. Here it is with my sofa table on it.
